Holy Communion
Holy Communion is offered the first Sunday of the month.

Time for the Younger Church/Sunday School/Youth Group
Sunday school begins at 10:15 am after the “Time for the Younger Church” portion of the worship service. Children leave to their own playroom, where they enjoy a story, prayer, related activity and play. They bring home a handout that summarizing the story they heard with discussion ideas for parents. At special times during the year, the youth meet during worship to develop a skit that is performed during worship.

Birthday Sunday
On the third Sunday of each month, Redwoods offers a birthday blessing to those in worship who have a birthday during the month. In addition, those who have indicated their birthday to the church office (924-4832 or office@redwoodspres.org) are offered a birthday blessing in the monthly bulletin, the LOG, and here on the church website. Please wish a Happy Birthday on May 2 – Georgene Gmahling, 4 – Marilyn Paulson and 7 – Patrick Little (’95).

A Warm Welcome from Redwood Groups

All the groups at Redwoods warmly encourage new members. Please consider joining one or more of the following groups.

Choir
During the fall, winter and spring months, the choir practices before Sunday worship at 9:15 am and on 7:30 on Thursdays. If you like to sing, you are warmly welcomed to join the choir and sing some wonderful music. For more information, contact Redwoods Music Director Barbara Bacon-Shaw.

Bell Choir
During the fall, winter and spring months, the bell choir practices at 9:00 on Tuesdays. If you are interested in the bell choir, please contact Redwoods Music Director Barbara Bacon-Shaw.

Bible Study
Bible Study meets weekly at 10:30 am on Tuesdays. The group uses Horizon study guides and warmly welcomes new members at any time. Please feel free to come to any Bible Study meeting or if you would like more information, please contact SFTS Intern Faith McClellan or the Rev. Cornel Barnett.

Saturday Breakfast
The Saturday Breakfast offers a half hour potluck breakfast and socializing at 9:30 am on the third Saturday of the month before an educational program at 10 am. All newcomers are warmly welcomed. For more information about the group or its upcoming programs, please contact Chair Debbie Lundberg.

Mill Street
On the second Sunday of each month year-round, Redwoods offers a meal to the 50 residents of the Mill Street Center, a homeless shelter in San Rafael. A signup sheet in Fellowship Hall indicates contributions needed, including milk, juice, fruit, canned goods, margarine, other staples and casseroles. The Mill Street residents are very grateful for the support. Please give as generously as you are able.

Spirit and Work Support Group
The Spirit and Work Support Group meets the second Monday of the month from 7-8 pm in the church library. In a confidential and supportive environment, church members and friends share about such topics as job changes, collegial relationships, time management, balancing work and home life and how faith and spirituality support work, and they offer prayers for each other in between meetings. For more information, contact The Rev. Cornel Barnett.

Meetings of church governing bodies—officers and committees—are open to members of the congregation. Here is a list of upcoming governing body meetings:

The Facilities Committee (Clay Wiens) will next meet on the call of the chair.

The Worship/Christian Education Committee (Melissa Gill) will next meet on the call of the chair.

The Membership/Fellowship Committee (Nancy Rademacher) will next meet at 7 pm, Tuesday, May 22

The Mission Outreach Committee (Debbie Lundberg) will next meet at 11:00 am on Sunday, June 3.

The Deacons (Polly Gorder) will next meet at 7 pm, Tuesday, June 12.

Spiritual Direction – May 18 and following Fridays
Join a women’s group seeking to become more aware of the movement of Spirit through readings, contemplative music, prayer, silence and the sharing. A weekly series facilitated by Spiritual Director, Debbie Dybsky, MA, DASD, is held at 1-2:30 pm, at the Interfaith Counseling Center, 15 Austin Ave., San Anselmo, on the San Francisco Theological Seminary campus. Participants may drop in at any time; donations are gratefully accepted. To register, contact Debbie at 578-8128 or dymuir@aol.com.

Interfaith Education – May 21
Join the Marin Interfaith Council at their Intra-faith Education Series on Islam, Monday, May 21 at 7 pm at the Islamic Center and Mosque, 62 Shell Rd., Mill Valley, featuring Center representative Ebrahim Nana, Islamic Society of California President Imam Mehdi Khorasani, and International Association of Sufism’s Safa Ali Michael Newman. Cost: $15 adult, $8 youth.

Horizons at Redwoods – May 22 and following Tuesdays
Join the Tuesday Morning Bible Study at 11:00 am and delve into “God’s Creative World,” the Horizons Bible Study about the Gospel of John. This thoughtful and interesting study offers questions for personal reflection and group discussion. For more information, contact Rev. Benefit Concert – May 26
St. Andrews Presbyterian Church Spring Benefit Concert will be held at 7 pm, Saturday, May 26 at Cornerstone Community Church, 626 Drake Ave., Marin City, with author Anne Lamott, singer Carol “Kelly” Thomas, praise dancer Nicole Hughes, the St. Andrews Choir, Rev. Veronica Goines and emcee Brandon Hughes. Get tickets, $35 or $20 students/seniors, at brownpapertickets.com or at 389-5070.

Wear Red – May 27
Prepare for Pentecost by wearing something red next on Pentecost Sunday, May 27. Red symbolizes the flames of the spirit unleashed on Jesus’ disciples and subsequent generations.

Membership/Fellowship Bingo Dinner– June 1
Please join members of the Membership/Fellowship Committee for a spaghetti dinner and bingo at the Corte Madera Recreation Center on Friday, June 1, 6 pm. There is a sign up sheet in Fellowship Hall so we can arrange for a table together. Cost is $11 and tickets are purchased at the door.

Kids on Camera – July 30-August 3
Enroll kids ages 6-13 for the Kids on Camera TV/Film Acting Day Camp at Redwoods from 9:30 am-3 pm (with extended hours available from 8 am-5:30 pm), July 30-August 3 and /or August 6-10.
